One small piano for mankind
One Stoho bohemian band for all Stafford
One day, while I was quarantining with the latest, greatest vaccine resistant plague variant, my friend Beth texted me that there was a free piano on Route 32 and if I knew anyone who could save it.
We had just been talking about finding and housing a street piano for Stafford Arts Commission events. I had nothing else I could do this particular day, so I drove to take a look at Mx. Free. It was an adorable little spinet, so I suspected we’d be able to get it to my shop. I texted the commission members and within two hours we had three guys and a truck (Special thinks to Joe, who saw us and stopped to help! And Donna and Beth for bringing the truck and ramp!). Fortunately for my back and the future of the planet, I kept a wide distance from the actual work.
A little bit of research, brain power, and Amazon were employed to get street wheels installed and a ramp built. As I’m finishing up the painting, I can’t help but think what else would be cool, so I’m working on adding a guitar and drum and starting a whole Stohoboho ensemble.
I decided to stake my claim and sit out here while I waited for the guys. It was a beautiful September day.
Plinky plinky… None of us can play.
They made short work of that
Back on Main Street
It’s an old 1940’s NYC spinet. They’re not worth very much, so we’re not doing a terrible thing by giving it a new Bohemian life
Its first song! (I’ll eventually get it tuned and repaired).
This is just a doctored color sketch! I’ll start painting this week.
It had some metal floor-digging original wheels that needed to be replaced. I’ll be flipping it back upright today, if I can find help.
With the wheels finally screwed on (no small matter), it’s time to finish painting!
I suspect this is a part number, but it is close to the date.
Made some decisions for the back soundboard.
Gently unscrewing parts, vacuuming out former mice, and getting nice clean paint lines. So fun!
