Community Tile floor, a slightly flawed sink, and a sewing machine cabinet made into a vanity

Celebration of a Toilet!

January 26, 2019

Okay, more of a celebration of many years of an ongoing project we have named, “The Community Tile Project.”

I loosely began this project when I first started teaching about ten years ago. In the back of my mind I wanted to use students’ tiles along with my own to tile parts of my home studio. I collected a few, stored them, and then never really had the right space to use them.

When we were renovating the shop building and a thousand ideas were swirling around, I thought it would be a perfect time to re-invigorate the tile project. That led to the little fun activity table out at our grand opening and the subsequent small walk-in work station in the shop.

We then went through the process of banging out all the necessary renovations on the building, including major repairs, and our horrible little bathroom never made the cut.

Until this winter! We added a small bathroom in the shop next door and used it as an opportunity to finally finally get to ours. And of course… our tiles!

So… I’ll let the pictures tell the story!

The bathroom entry in its former glory

The sink vanity in its former life (and we did find a home for that sewing machine:)

Laying out the floor

Last minute firing of more tiles as I realized we didn’t have enough!

I had help with the more tedious parts of the process!

Sangria & Art now preserved in grout ;)
